Greek Baklava

This has to be the simplest and most delicious sweet that anyone that loves syrupy sweets can make



250gm butter

1 packet filo pastry

500gm walnuts

1 tblspn cinammon



2 cups sugar

1 cup water

1 tblspn honey

1/2 cinammon stick

2 pieces lemon peel


Whizz the walnuts in a food processor until coarsely ground

Mix with Cinnamon

Butter a baking dish and lay down 2 sheets of filo , brush with melted butter

Scatter walnuts over the pastry and then lay down another 2 pieces of filo and brush with butter – repeat process until all filo is used – finish with filo

Reheat the butter so it is hot and pour over the pastry evenly over the pastry

Cut into diamond shapes and place 1 clove in each diamond

Bake 40 minutes in moderate oven

Once cooked, cool slightly and  pour over warm syrup – allow to cool



Mix all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to boil

Skim off any impurities and boil for 5 minutes
